Seth Godin: But you're not saying anything →
Most people work hard to find artful ways to say very little. Write nothing instead. It’s shorter.

The surprising truth about what motivates us →
This is an excellent video on the things that motivate people. Makes me think about the job I’m in and what the managers there are using for motivation.

My Windows XP VM was killing the performance on my machine. I moved the VM image to an external USB hard drive and that made a huge improvement.

Kallie and I are starting a new blog to document the improvements we are making to the house. I’ll get a domain picked soon, but for now you can go here to check out the fun.

New House
Way back in July, Kallie and I found a house in Brooklyn Park that we really liked. In August, I put my house up for sale and put a contingent offer on the new house. It took a while, but I sold my house and closed on the house in Brooklyn Park.
The close date was January 29th, and since then we have filled the garage with my stuff, mounted the plasma above the fireplace (important things...

Engagement Photos
Engagement Photos About a month ago, Kallie and I meet Emily Griffith in downtown St. Paul to take some engagement photos. Kallie and I know Emily from high school and really like her style. We spent a few hours around Rice Park, the Landmark Building, the St. Paul Hotel, Chipotle and the Science Center. Click on the photo to check out more of the great photos! Also, check out Emily’s blog...

Engaged!
On September 5th, I ask Kallie to marry me. She said “Yes”! Kallie has a knack for being very curious and finding out about any surprise I try to plan. But, I managed to pull off a nice surprise when I proposed. On the Thursday night before, I was flying back from Columbus, OH, and had planned on hanging out with Kallie, Erin and Charlie. When I boarded the plane in Columbus, I sent...

Mt. Rushmore Concert
Mt. Rushmore Concert Originally uploaded by peoplesdan I’ve posted some photos from the 147th and 34th ID Army Band concert at Mt. Rushmore. The 34th ID Band drove from the Twin Cities to perform a joint concert. Good times.
Blind Squirrel II
Blind Squirrel II Originally uploaded by peoplesdan Last weekend my dad, grandpa and uncle meet for the 2nd Annual Blind Squirrel Golf Tournament. We golfed two courses over a Sunday evening and Monday morning. This year we travelled to Redwood Falls and golfed the Redwood Falls Golf Course and the Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton, MN, same as the inaugural Blind Squirrel. Its a fun two days of...

Weekend Projects
Action Shot Originally uploaded by peoplesdan This Memorial Day weekend was spent working on a number of projects around the house. It was a great weekend to hang around the house with Kallie and work on the projects when we felt like it. Between the two us, we managed to pressure wash the deck and front steps, restain and finish the back deck, replace a light fixture and paint the downstairs...

Dan and Kallie
Dan and Kallie Originally uploaded by peoplesdan This is Kallie :) We started dating about two months ago (for you non-Facebook friends). I have known Kallie for a while: her sister and my sister have been best friends since middle school. After I graduated high school, I didn’t see her for many years, until this Christmas. We went to hang out one night with both of our sisters in...

Raise the Roof
Raise the House Originally uploaded by peoplesdan The last couple of months, I have seen this house up on blocks everytime I get off I-494 on my way home. The house had been lifted off the foundation like it was being moved, but it never left. Throughout the entire winter, the house sat up on the blocks. The house wasn’t lifted the 3-4 feet needed to get a truck under it, but over 10 feet...

Moving Forward
Today my last day at Empower Solutions. I took a job with Solbourne, another consulting firm, and will start in October. A few weeks ago I was at home and while talking to my dad, I realized that I couldn’t see myself at Empower anymore. Empower has been a good company to work for and I have meet many great people while working here, but it is time for me to leave.
Solbourne looks like a...

iPhone Line at Mall of America
[Caution: link to boring video] The co-worker who sat in line with me for the iPhone found this video of the line at the Mall of America. I can be seen after the 3 minute mark.
Gmail/iPhone fix
A few months ago I moved my email over to Google (thanks Comcast…). Since then, I have been having an issue when downloading my email. I use Mail.app on two computers that are synced with .Mac. But, when one computer would download email from my hosted Google account, the other machine would not download the message.
I also was having problems with my iPhone on the hosted Google account....
Poor Crossfire
So, my Crossfire was hit on Friday. Mike and I went to Chipotle for lunch. As we were backing out of our parking spot, a Honda Pilot backed into the driver side door of my Crossfire. I had already turned the car to drive forward and the Honda backed straight into the side of my car. It was quite obvious who ran into who, but parking lots accidents are “No Fault” accidents. The Honda...

Waiting in line for the iPhone
So, I am sitting in line at the Mall of America Apple Store waiting for the iPhone release. Chary, a co-worker, and her husband Fransico are sitting with me as well. All three of us are very excited to get a phone. We arrived at the MoA around 3:00 pm and are approx the 60th people in line. The Apple Store people are great to us in line. They have been handing out water to us and telling us...
Moving Hosts
So, after a few years of running my own server, I have finally given up and moved daniverson.com to a hosted setup. The server has been a fun hobby of mine and great way to learn about setting up email/web server.
Over the last few months, Comcast hasn’t been playing friendly so I have had to give up and move daniverson.com off-site. On the good side, I can turn off the energy sucking...

iTunes overwhelmed by Christmas iPods
My little sister received and iPod Shuffle for Christmas from my parents. Being the good older brother, I helped her unpack it and set it up with iTunes. When I tried to register her iPod or activate the iTunes Store gift card I have her, the iTunes Store would not respond. I made a comment to my dad that lots of people must have received iPods for...

Sad Day in the Funny Pages
Foxtrot to stop producing daily comics.
Foxtrot has been part of my morning routine for years. Bill Amend has a great sense of humor and amazes me with his ability to take to a complex math joke and put it in a three frame comic strip. He is also a mac guy :) I guess I’ll have to find another comic strip to fill my morning routine (along with Dilbert).
Say Hello to My Little Friends
Meet the newest members of my household -
“C” and Sushi. “C” is the grey one and Sushi is the orange tabby. I picked them up at the Animal Ark shelter in Hastings, MN.
Ever since I bought the house, I have been thinking about getting a cat to keep me company. When I was looking at the cats at Animal Ark, I saw these two. They have grown up together and the shelter...
Making My MacBook Even More Useful
I use my MacBook as my main computer at work. I do have a desktop PC that is hooked up the network and runs my client email. But, that is about all I use the PC for.
I use Parallels to run the 1 or 2 Windows-only apps on my MacBook that I have to use for my job. It works well, but there are still a few annoyances. Well, Parallels has started to correct them. First, Coherency Mode. I love this!...

Christmas Lights
This weekend I pulled out the Christmas tree and bought some lights for my house. Ah, the joys of home ownership. It’s a good thing my house has a tall roof and that I don’t get along with heights…
Playing with iTunes
TUAW had a neat tip on displaying an iMix from iTunes on your webpage. Below is my first iMix.
MNF
Last week, Tim (Liz’s boyfriend) and I went to the Vikings Monday Night Football game. Tim and Liz drove up to the cities on Monday so we could go to the game. Neither of us had been to a NFL game, so we were excited.
While the game was fun, the Vikings rolled over let the Patriots take over the game.
Check out the photos on my flickr stream.

The Simplest Things Make the Biggest Difference
So, the PeopleSoft Geekery blog had a small success today (in my mind). Last week I posted an entry about a new PeopleSoft tool. To my surprise, I received an email today from Chris Heller, the PeopleSoft guru from the company who makes the tool. Now keep in mind, I didn’t send him an email, or tell anyone. (I guess I did ping Technorati, so that is kind of like telling people).
He thanked...
House Hunting Comes to a Close
Well, I found a house, made an offer and it was accepted. I have a home!
I close on the 20th of October, so I’ll be moving that weekend and will take lots of pictures. Until then, y’all have to be patient ;) I am really excited about the house. The inspector came today and gave the house a clean bill of health. So, the house will be mine in three weeks!

Trying something new
PeopleSoft Geekery
I thought that I would try something new. Blogging about work seems to be a new trend. While I don’t always jump on the bandwagon, I have found other people’s blogs quite helpful. Even if I only use this blog to link to other peoples sites, I show that I find the information useful. If I do have an epiphany at work, I’ll make sure to post it here.
House Hunting
The past few weeks I have been spending much of my free time looking for a house. Since I was staffed on a project in St. Paul, I decided it was a great time to move to the Twin Cities. I have thought about moving here many times, especially with all the travel I do for work. But now that I am in the cities full time, it is a great time to move here and not get on a plane every week. (I still...

Unix humor… I saw this comic and really wanted a t-shirt of it. Thankfully, they make the t-shirt :)
