Moving Forward

Today my last day at Empower Solutions. I took a job with Solbourne, another consulting firm, and will start in October. A few weeks ago I was at home and while talking to my dad, I realized that I couldn't see myself at Empower anymore. Empower has been a good company to work for and I have meet many great people while working here, but it is time for me to leave.

Solbourne looks like a great company to work for and they are very serious in growing the company in the next few years. Because of their aggressive growth plan, Solbourne is giving me an opportunity I never would have had at Empower.

Any change in life can make you nervous, especially when leaving something familiar, but I am excited for this change.

iPhone Line at Mall of America

Gmail/iPhone fix

A few months ago I moved my email over to Google (thanks Comcast...). Since then, I have been having an issue when downloading my email. I use Mail.app on two computers that are synced with .Mac. But, when one computer would download email from my hosted Google account, the other machine would not download the message.

I also was having problems with my iPhone on the hosted Google account. The iPhone has a feature where if it sees "gmail.com" in a username, it automatically configures it for the normal Gmail servers. The hosted Google setup is slightly different, so my iPhone wasn't able to check that email account.

Today, I happened to find this blog post that fixed both my issues. Yeah! Now it works just like I want it.

I am always impressed by Gmail and the little hacks they have. Any time I have wanted a feature or configuration in Gmail, a quick Google search will show some Gmail hack (like the "recent:") that gets me what I want. Gmail sure is swell.

Poor Crossfire

So, my Crossfire was hit on Friday. Mike and I went to Chipotle for lunch. As we were backing out of our parking spot, a Honda Pilot backed into the driver side door of my Crossfire. I had already turned the car to drive forward and the Honda backed straight into the side of my car. It was quite obvious who ran into who, but parking lots accidents are "No Fault" accidents. The Honda had no visible damage, but the door and rear panel of the car have nice dents.

So, I get to pay out my deductible and he gets away free. We both have the same insurance company, so maybe they will be good about the whole thing.

Waiting in line for the iPhone

So, I am sitting in line at the Mall of America Apple Store waiting for the iPhone release. Chary, a co-worker, and her husband Fransico are sitting with me as well. All three of us are very excited to get a phone. We arrived at the MoA around 3:00 pm and are approx the 60th people in line. The Apple Store people are great to us in line. They have been handing out water to us and telling us to hang in there because it will be worth the wait. (They are probably playing with them right now...).

I forgot to bring my camera cables, so I'll post those photos later. For now, here are some shots from my iSight.

Moving Hosts

So, after a few years of running my own server, I have finally given up and moved daniverson.com to a hosted setup. The server has been a fun hobby of mine and great way to learn about setting up email/web server.

Over the last few months, Comcast hasn't been playing friendly so I have had to give up and move daniverson.com off-site. On the good side, I can turn off the energy sucking server that has run the site for a few years. The room where my server sits is about 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the house. Maybe my electricity bills will go down next month...

There may be a few bumps in the transition - I'm just doing the move on the fly. As I find the bugs I'll get them fixed.

iTunes overwhelmed by Christmas iPods

My little sister received and iPod Shuffle for Christmas from my parents. Being the good older brother, I helped her unpack it and set it up with iTunes. When I tried to register her iPod or activate the iTunes Store gift card I have her, the iTunes Store would not respond. I made a comment to my dad that lots of people must have received iPods for Christmas. I guess I was right.

On a side note, I broke down and bought a 2GB iPod Nano last night. I have wanted the Nike + iPod running kit for a while and I couldn't wait any longer. I guess that means that I will have to run more now so that I can enjoy my new iPod. That's too bad.
