Waiting in line for the iPhone

So, I am sitting in line at the Mall of America Apple Store waiting for the iPhone release. Chary, a co-worker, and her husband Fransico are sitting with me as well. All three of us are very excited to get a phone. We arrived at the MoA around 3:00 pm and are approx the 60th people in line. The Apple Store people are great to us in line. They have been handing out water to us and telling us to hang in there because it will be worth the wait. (They are probably playing with them right now…).

I forgot to bring my camera cables, so I’ll post those photos later. For now, here are some shots from my iSight.

Moving Hosts

So, after a few years of running my own server, I have finally given up and moved daniverson.com to a hosted setup. The server has been a fun hobby of mine and great way to learn about setting up email/web server.

Over the last few months, Comcast hasn’t been playing friendly so I have had to give up and move daniverson.com off-site. On the good side, I can turn off the energy sucking server that has run the site for a few years. The room where my server sits is about 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the house. Maybe my electricity bills will go down next month…

There may be a few bumps in the transition - I’m just doing the move on the fly. As I find the bugs I’ll get them fixed.

For any web nerds

unfortunate placement of yahoo ad on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

That is great.

For any one who doesn’t get it… 404 is the error code for a webpage that can’t be found.

The iPhone [Insert drooling here]

iPhone

Yes, I will be getting this - even if it means switching carriers.

I Guessed It

iTunes overwhelmed by Christmas iPods

My little sister received and iPod Shuffle for Christmas from my parents. Being the good older brother, I helped her unpack it and set it up with iTunes. When I tried to register her iPod or activate the iTunes Store gift card I have her, the iTunes Store would not respond. I made a comment to my dad that lots of people must have received iPods for Christmas. I guess I was right.

On a side note, I broke down and bought a 2GB iPod Nano last night. I have wanted the Nike + iPod running kit for a while and I couldn’t wait any longer. I guess that means that I will have to run more now so that I can enjoy my new iPod. That’s too bad.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sad Day in the Funny Pages

Foxtrot to stop producing daily comics.

Foxtrot has been part of my morning routine for years. Bill Amend has a great sense of humor and amazes me with his ability to take to a complex math joke and put it in a three frame comic strip. He is also a mac guy :) I guess I’ll have to find another comic strip to fill my morning routine (along with Dilbert).

Say Hello to My Little Friends

Meet the newest members of my household -

C and Sushi

“C” and Sushi. “C” is the grey one and Sushi is the orange tabby. I picked them up at the Animal Ark shelter in Hastings, MN.

Ever since I bought the house, I have been thinking about getting a cat to keep me company. When I was looking at the cats at Animal Ark, I saw these two. They have grown up together and the shelter didn’t want to separate them. Having two cats at home would be good since I am gone quite a bit; they could entertain each other.

So, Friday afternoon I drove down and picked them. Once they explored the entire house, they both cuddled on the blanket I placed on the couch. Both of them are very affectionate and love to be pet. C loves to have her belly rubbed too :)

Making My MacBook Even More Useful

I use my MacBook as my main computer at work. I do have a desktop PC that is hooked up the network and runs my client email. But, that is about all I use the PC for.

I use Parallels to run the 1 or 2 Windows-only apps on my MacBook that I have to use for my job. It works well, but there are still a few annoyances. Well, Parallels has started to correct them. First, Coherency Mode. I love this! John Gruber had it right.

The next great update is that you can share your Boot Camp partition with Parallels. I had both for a while, but ended up deleting the Boot Camp install because I really didn’t need both installs of Windows. I would like to be able to boot into Windows directly occasionally, so being able to share the partition with Parallels doesn’t waste the space.

Christmas Lights

This weekend I pulled out the Christmas tree and bought some lights for my house. Ah, the joys of home ownership. It’s a good thing my house has a tall roof and that I don’t get along with heights…

My House

Playing with iTunes

TUAW had a neat tip on displaying an iMix from iTunes on your webpage. Below is my first iMix.

MNF

Last week, Tim (Liz’s boyfriend) and I went to the Vikings Monday Night Football game. Tim and Liz drove up to the cities on Monday so we could go to the game. Neither of us had been to a NFL game, so we were excited.

While the game was fun, the Vikings rolled over let the Patriots take over the game.

Check out the photos on my flickr stream.

House Photos

I took these photos before I moved much into the house. Since I have no furniture, it still looks the same ever after I moved in my boxes of “stuff”.

Almost there…

So, I close on my first house Friday morning. I am very excited, and very nervous. As soon as I get the keys, I’ll take lots of photos and post them. Ridiculously large mortgage, here I come!

The Simplest Things Make the Biggest Difference

So, the PeopleSoft Geekery blog had a small success today (in my mind). Last week I posted an entry about a new PeopleSoft tool. To my surprise, I received an email today from Chris Heller, the PeopleSoft guru from the company who makes the tool. Now keep in mind, I didn’t send him an email, or tell anyone. (I guess I did ping Technorati, so that is kind of like telling people).

He thanked me for the post, but also told me that the product did more than I mentioned in the post. I’m sure he wanted to get the info out that the software does more than I posted, but it was impressive that he took the time to find my blog entry and send me an email thanking me. I was wrong in my post (lack of thinking on my part), so it was nice to be corrected too.

All in all, a small victory and hopefully a sign of better things to come.
